From the Co-Chairs

2019-20 Cornell United Way Campaign co-chairs, Pat Wynn, executive director of Campus Life Enterprise Services, and Rick Burgess, vice president for facilities and campus services.

Dear Members of the Cornell Community,

We are honored to serve as the co-chairs of the Cornell United Way Campaign for 2019-20 and hope that you’ll join us in supporting our community.

The impact of your contributions to over 100 essential programs that support families in Tompkins County is considerable – over one-third of the overall support that families receive through the campaign comes directly from you and our entire Cornell family. Your generous gift helps with serious, life-impacting challenges including hunger, homelessness, and mental illness. One in five of our friends, family, and neighbors receive vital support from United Way funded programs and services.

It is crucial to understand that 100% of your gift to the Community Care Fund goes on to programs that have proven they keep their promises to the community, are efficient, and have demonstrated measurable impact in the areas of health, education and financial stability including food security. This is possible because Corporate Cornerstone Partners cover the administrative and operating costs of the United Way of Tompkins County.

You can manage all your annual giving to the nonprofits you support, including United Ways in other counties, through this campaign. Simply designate where you want your contributions to go and they will be passed along. As with the Community Care Fund, 100% will be passed along as you designate.

Pledges are taken through December 31, and payroll deduction begins in January 2020 and is a convenient way to spread payment throughout the year.

And because United Way funds are eligible for matching grants, you can multiply your giving dollars. So whether you are giving to the Community Care Fund, or designating to an agency here or anywhere in the world or a combination of both, this one pledge can get that accomplished.

If you decide to use the online giving system, please create a new password once you log on, and please do not use your NetID password.

If you prefer, there are also other ways to pledge and/or donate:

  • You can give online through United Way of Tompkins County’s secure website.
  • If you prefer a pledge card in hardcopy, you can download and print one on our Give page.
  • If you prefer to have a pledge card sent to you, please contact us.
  • You can text the word “local” to 313131 and you will receive a link to give electronically.
  • You can call (607) 500-GIVE during business days, 8am – 5pm and someone will talk you through a pledge or arrange to get you a pledge card.

Our esteemed President Martha Pollack is a strong supporter of United Way and has helped us to establish the Cornell President’s Leadership Association – we welcome you to join us through a gift of $1000 or more. No matter what amount you give, the collective power of the Cornell community’s contributions have a lasting impact on those your donations support.

Thank you for considering a gift to the United Way. Look for more campaign news soon.
